The High School Experience in Orlando

Students participating in OHLA High School programs in Orlando should be prepared for a wonderful experience! Our team puts forth a tremendous amount of effort to ensure that student receive the highest level of academics complimented with an array of opportunities in sports and after-school activities.

The American Public High School educational system includes four grade levels, which are known as: Freshman (9th grade), sophomore (10th grade), junior (11th grade) and senior (12th grade). Students will be placed in the appropriate grade upon arrival according to their school academic history.

In Orlando, students can choose from 8 High Schools. Students select 1 of 2 blocks (block A or block B) of pre-selected High Schools offered and OHLA guarantees placement in one of the schools within the selected block.

We assign the school that is best suited to each individual student based on their individual needs.

  • Students are to be between 15 and 17 and 1/2 years old at the time of arrival.
  • Students are to be secondary school student in their home country, who have completed at least eight but no more than eleven years of primary and secondary study, exclusive of kindergarten.
  • Students have not already graduated from High School in their home country.
  • Students cannot have repeated any grades.
  • Students must carry at least a B average.
  • Students are to have at least two or more years of successful English training.
  • Students are to be able to communicate with their host families and school officials in English.
  • Students are to demonstrate maturity, good character and scholastic aptitude with above average grades in their home country.
  • Students are to be in excellent health and demonstrate no emotional disorder.
  • Students who are already 17 years of age are obligated to attend grade 12 and can only register for the year program.

The purpose of this early arrival is to help students get ready for school enrollment, have their compulsory medical exam, receive their formal orientation, and meet representatives of OHLA and the school district. We will also assist students in getting situated in the city and show them a little bit of what their destination of choice has to offer.
