How the OHLA GAP Year Program Works (2 Stages Explained)

The OHLA GAP Year Program follows a clear two-stage structure. Each stage prepares students for the next step. As a result, students gain confidence, skills, and real academic experience in the U.S.

Stage 1: English Language Program (20 or 30 Weeks)

First, students begin with intensive Academic English at OHLA. They can choose a 20-week or 30-week option, depending on their English level.

During this stage, students:

  • Improve speaking, listening, reading, and writing
  • Build strong academic vocabulary
  • Practice presentations, essays, and class discussions

Most importantly, students prepare for college-level study. Teachers focus on real academic tasks, not just general English. Because of this, students feel more confident using English in a university setting.

In addition, OHLA provides personalized support. Students receive guidance, progress checks, and clear goals. By the end of Stage 1, students are ready to move forward.

Stage 2: College Semester Program (16 Weeks)

Next, students enter the college semester stage. This stage lasts 16 weeks and takes place at one of OHLA’s partner colleges.

During this stage, students:

  • Study alongside American and international students
  • Earn 12 or more college credits
  • Experience real U.S. campus life

As a result, students gain academic confidence and practical experience. They also strengthen their university applications. For many students, this stage becomes a bridge to a full degree program.

Together, these two stages create a smooth and supportive pathway from English study to U.S. college success.
